How to Stay Motivated in the Summer

Finally, the warmer days are on the horizon, and the urge to kick back and enjoy the sun is surfacing again. Why hit the gym when you can spend the afternoon in the park or pub garden?

The British summer can be fleeting, so, understandably, we want to make the most of it. However, before you forgo a workout for a few pints, consider whether your future self will be pleased. After all, you can get a workout in and still see your friends!

If you’ve noticed your motivation dipping, we’re here to help. Keep reading for five ways to stay motivated during the summer months.

1. Set a Summer Goal

There’s no better way to light a fire inside your heart than with a fitness goal. Summer isn’t the time to coast! It’s actually a great chance to stay active and work towards something you’ve been thinking about for a while.

For example, you might want to nail some new footwork or sign up for your first boxing event.

You could even work with a personal trainer and develop a bespoke roadmap to guarantee you meet your goals.

Whatever you’re called to, decide on a deadline and work towards it. This can inspire you to show up, even when you fancy sunbathing.

2. Embrace The Weather

When the sun is shining, the last thing most people want to do is stay indoors, even if there is air conditioning. So, why force yourself?

Take your workout schedule to the local park or garden. Boxing drills can be just as fun in the sun, and you can swap your usual gym cardio for a local run.

You never know when the sun will disappear. Make the most of it!

3. Start Earlier

Getting your workouts done earlier isn’t as fun, but it’s a realistic way to keep on track while also making the most of the season.

The longer daylight hours are a bonus here. They give you more flexibility, so it doesn’t feel like you’re up at the crack of dawn.

Need one more reason to workout in the am? Working up a sweat before the peak of the heat is much more comfortable!

4. Make It A Social Occasion

FOMO (fear of missing out) is a major cause of missed workouts in the summer.

You can beat this by simply training with your mates! Nothing beats a session with friends, especially when you have the same goals.

Not on the same page as your buddies? A workout class is the best way to meet like-minded people who put their fitness first, even when the sun’s shining.

5. Reward Your Efforts

Sometimes, the best motivation is a little treat.

Track your sessions and reward yourself for hitting your weekly training targets and staying on schedule. Whether that’s with a rest day, a well-earned pub garden visit, or some new boxing equipment, it’ll inspire you to keep coming back.
